The Princess of Wales's Traditional Christmas Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the former royal to widen access to music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be people from various age groups.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

This annual carol service will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
